How Dalrymple got his name

Anthony Daniels explains (from 0 mins 40 secs) that when he devised the pen-name Theodore Dalrymple, it was in consultation with the then editor of the UK Spectator magazine.

I wanted to sound old and bad-tempered. It also had to be a name that did not appear on the Medical Register.

While there are a number of Dr Dalrymples in the UK, there is no Dr Theodore Dalrymple.

Two other pen-names used by Dr Daniels are Edward Theberton and Thursday Msigwa.
