Bad old habits of the Germans

Screen Shot 2016-01-10 at 07.16.57Dalrymple writes that a common European identity

has to be forged deliberately and artificially, and one of the imperatives for attempting to do so is the need of Germans for an identity that is not German. And since the Germans are very powerful in Europe, by weight of their economy, their need to escape from themselves by absorbing everyone into a new collective identity will sooner or later be perceived in the rest of Europe as the need to impose themselves— as a return to their bad old habits.

Blessings bestowed by BASF and Bayer

were to shut down tomorrow. What would the costs be (to European health alone)? Almost certainly they would be incomparably greater than the present costs. Imagine life without any of the chemicals that the industry produced.

The rest of Europe owes Germany

more than it pays for the chemicals it buys from it.

Halt! Ihre Papiere, bitte. Schnell!

It is not something the Germans have sought, writes Dalrymple. It has been

thrust upon them by their diligence, industry and constant application of intelligence to the real rather than the virtual economy, by their willingness to get rich slow.

The Germans do not want to throw their weight about, demanding every country’s

Papiere, bitte.

Yet they

do not want to be responsible for rampant inflation or for the breakup of the euro, either.

Whatever is decided,

love of Germany in Europe will not grow.

Cable-TV porn in hotel rooms disappoints

Screen Shot 2014-02-21 at 03.30.34After conducting a presumably fairly comprehensive fact-finding investigation, and demonstrating a sound grasp of the economics of the industry, Dalrymple bemoans the quality of the (pay-to-view) pornographic movies available on cable TV in Western European hotel rooms, movies which, he says, he ‘catches a glimpse of from time to time’. These ‘mostly German’ films, he writes,

Screen Shot 2014-02-21 at 03.20.40are almost as widely exported as Mercedes cars; yet they are about as unerotic as it is possible for pornography to be. They seem to consist largely of overweight men and women running naked into muddy ponds, where they thrash about.

Screen Shot 2014-02-21 at 03.21.01Who could possibly disagree with this? The consensus has been for many years that the quality of Japanese pornographic fare is greatly superior.
