British social policy defined

An idiocy wrapped in a lunacy wrapped in an absurdity, to produce misery and squalor

Dalrymple writes:

A tax on knowledge is a terrible thing, but a tax on ignorance, prejudice, evasion and half-truth is worse. That is what every British household with a television must pay, for the privilege of having the earnest but frivolous lucubrations of the BBC purveyed to it, whether it wants them or not.

This poll tax — or licence fee, as it is known — is the equivalent of nearly $200 per household a year, and is thus worth evading. Unfortunately, it costs nearly three times as much to catch evaders as the licence fees would have raised if paid. One proposal is to halve the licence fee for single mothers. Dalrymple comments:

In other words, we should subsidise a subsidy, in the name of a universal right to misinformation and trashy entertainment (and at the same time confer yet another incentive for single parenthood).

The curse of welfarism

Young British mothers

Dalrymple writes that there is in the West, and especially in Britain,

a rising tide of neglect, cruelty, Sadism, and joyous malignity.

Where does the evil come from? Dalrymple points out that

a necessary, though not sufficient, condition is the welfare state, which makes it possible, and sometimes advantageous, to behave like this.

Fatherhood

Young British fathers

The State

is the parent of last resort—or of first resort. The State gives assistance to the mother of any child, once it has come into being. In matters of public housing, it is advantageous for a mother to put herself at a disadvantage, to be a single mother, without support from the fathers of the children and dependent on the State for income. She is then a priority; she won’t pay local taxes, rent, or utility bills.

absolves them of all responsibility for their children. The State is father to the child. The biological father is free to use whatever income he has as pocket money, for entertainment and little treats. He is reduced to the status of a child, though a spoilt child with the physical capabilities of a man: petulant, demanding, querulous, self-centred, and violent. The violence escalates and becomes a habit. A spoilt brat becomes an evil tyrant.

Victims are the heroes of the politically correct

Today and as a teenager: Rachel Dolezal, who is of German, Czech and Swedish ancestry, is president of the Spokane chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. She has been portraying herself as African American for a decade. Dalrymple writes: 'Victims are the heroes of the politically correct; their victimhood confers unique moral authority upon them ex officio. And since many would like to be a unique moral authority, it follows that they would like to be a victim. The fact soon follows the wish, at least in their own estimation.'

Today and as a teenager: Rachel Dolezal, who is of German, Czech and Swedish ancestry, is president of the Spokane chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. A single mother who identifies herself as bisexual, and represents herself as the victim both of child abuse (she was, she claims, chastised with a ‘baboon whip’) and date-rape (she declined to sue the alleged perpetrator because, she said, of his great wealth), this energetic progressive has been portraying herself as African American for nearly a decade. Dalrymple writes: ‘Victims are the heroes of the politically correct; their victimhood confers unique moral authority upon them ex officio.
